GRADuate students

Melissa Morado

I am a master’s student in the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology, focusing on the physiological impacts of diet on terrestrial and marine mammals. I graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and gained research experience in animal behavior, physiology, ecology, environmental science and engineering, and paleoecology during my time there. I worked on several projects revolving around avian behavior and physiology and even worked on a multi-institutional project investigating the use of torpor in nesting female hummingbirds. I completed my senior research work at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, focusing on the ontogenetic variation of Pleistocene mammals, and continued to work there after graduation. I then became a technician for a project studying the breeding ecology of pelagic seabirds on Middleton Island, Alaska for a few months, and then moved to Seattle, Washington to be a research technician for the Behavioral Ecophysics Lab before being accepted to CSU. I enjoy mentoring the students in the lab as well as TAing for BZ214. Outside of the lab, I enjoy playing video games, building LEGOs, and spending time with my dog.

I am a third-year undergraduate student at Colorado State University. I am majoring in Zoology and minoring in chemistry. This is my second year in the Kanatous Labs. In the future, I hope to work in zoo education. Inspiring people and teaching them about animal conservation and welfare. I hope to be able to use the lab techniques and skills from the Kanatous lab in my future endeavors. I enjoy playing board games and spending time with my family and friends. I love to immerse myself in new worlds by watching movies and reading in my free time.
